Pantone has announced the colour of 2018, my favourite shade of purple – named PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet. This is a wild move from the fresh Greenery that dominated design during 2017. Going by last years success, we can expect to see lots of this gorgeous deep purple shade everywhere during 2018.
Pantone Color Institute “Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own. Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world.”
Pantone’s description of the shade reminds me of the healing properties of Amethyst – my favourite stone and the birthstone of February. It is known as a stone of protection, spirituality and contentment, and is linked to the crown chakra. It is prized for its metaphysical abilities to calm the mind and inspire an enhanced meditative state to clear negative thoughts.
I’m sure we could all do with some of that in the new year, so Pantone could be onto a winner! As for me, I already love creating art with this shade. Here are three designs featured on my Portfolio.

Inspired by Pantone and Amethyst, I look forward to creating more art using Ultra Violet!

Thanks for visiting today… HAPPY NEW YEAR! With love and best wishes Amanda.
